The art nights held at the island’s historical and iconic landmarks offered an unparalleled experiential journey, where tradition met contemporary artistic expression.
The Festival confirmed its role as a recognized platform for the island’s international promotion—one that highlights cultural heritage, immerses the audience in the atmosphere of each site, and draws inspiration from Chios itself: “With the aura of yesterday, towards the culture of tomorrow.”
Sunday, August 31, 2025 – Chios Castle
The first of the four evenings began with a unique Italian night at the Castle of Chios. In the presence of the Italian Ambassador to Greece, Paolo Cuculi, the audience enjoyed music from Genoa’s Teatro Carlo Felice, one of Italy’s most prestigious theaters. Performers Filipino Gamba (piano) and Giovanni Batista (violin) presented works by Ludwig van Beethoven and Nicolò Paganini.
The program also featured traditional songs and dances from Southern Italy and Apulia by the group Agriko, who perform in the Grico dialect. This Greek-speaking dialect has survived since the first colonization, reminding us of the grandeur of Magna Grecia.
The evening highlighted the timeless connection between Greece and Southern Italy, with a capacity crowd actively participating and enjoying the music and dance. The event was presented by Christos Nezos and Gogo Avgerinopoulou.
Tuesday, September 2, 2025 – Kastelli Mansion
The internationally renowned Chian soprano Christina Poulitsi enchanted the audience at the Castelli Mansion. In an evening of high aesthetics, the artist delivered a unique performance that evoked deep emotion and admiration.
The venue was packed to capacity, proving the importance of hosting artists of such caliber on Chios.
The audience offered a standing ovation, marking another brilliant moment for the Festival.
Saturday, September 6, 2025 – Petrokáravo, Vrontados
The Greek National Opera Ballet presented the dance diptych “Return of the Summer” at Petrokáravo in Vrontados, as part of this year’s European tour which launched in Chios before moving to Cyprus and the rest of Europe.
Featuring choreography by the Ballet Director Konstantinos Rigos (to the music of Hector Berlioz) and Yannis Mandafounis (to the music of the GNO’s Artistic Director, Giorgos Koumendakis), the performance was captivating. Petrokáravo at sunset provided a unique backdrop for the diptych, offering spiritual uplift and moments of rare aesthetic pleasure to the crowds who flooded Vrontados to witness this pioneering—for Chian standards—form of art.
Sunday, September 7, 2025 – Anavatos
The fourth artistic evening of the Festival concluded in the most imposing and atmospheric way at the central square of Anavatos, the “Mystras of Chios.” At this iconic landmark of immense historical and architectural value, the audience watched the performance “Medea” starring Karyofyllia Karabeti, accompanied on the piano by maestro Markellos Chryssicos.
Karabeti’s staggering performance transfixed the audience, while Chryssicos’ music elevated the play, creating an experience of profound artistic emotion. The overwhelming attendance demonstrated the event’s impact and the importance of promoting Anavatos as a living monument of Culture and Tradition, as well as the locals’ “thirst” for high-quality artistic events.
A Legacy for the Future
These four cultural evenings, each integrated into the character and atmosphere of a distinct landmark, proved that the 4th Chios Festival is not merely a host for events. It is an institution that draws inspiration from Chios, highlighting the beauty, history, and authenticity of its locations. By blending the aura of yesterday with the culture of tomorrow, Chios is establishing itself as a point of reference in the international cultural scene.
